I love clearance shopping and like to plan ahead when I buy things cheap. Would it be stupid to buy maternity clothes now even though I’m not showing? If not, what stores do you recommend for super cute maternity clothes? I don’t want anything frumpy!

no its not dumb! trust me, those clothes will come in handy and its good to get them on sale, because you dont use them very long. just make sure you buy them so you can accomodate a big belly when you are 8-9 months pregnant.

motherhood maternity has cute stuff and so does target

i wouldnt buy it early – cause you dont know what size your going to be…. my friend bought some early and half of the stuff didnt even fit her in the end… just go clearance shopping as you need it – for the first bit when you do start showing just buy like some normal compfy pants with elastic tops….
i dont recomment spending too much money on maternity clothes considering its not like your going to wear them forever

If you are already prego, then yes, buy away, maternity clothes are expensive! Just think clearly about your seasons and sizes. I was a small in the beginning of my first and a med at the end, the second time around I am starting out in a medium……hopefully I wont need to move into larges.

no thinking ahead is always a good idea.

I dont thionk its stupid to buy early. As long as your pregnancy is healthy youll need them eventually.

I think it’s wise to be prepared! Just don’t cut off the tags and keep all the receipts just in case!

Motherhood Maternity is a great place for cute maternity clothes!

Ross is a great place for discount maternity clothes… styles vary though..

Congrats!!

It’s not too bad. I found some cute shirts at Ross and I love Motherhood Maternity pants (especially the secret fit). However, I don’t like Motherhood’s pricing. I’d try Target, Ross or Old Navy.

NO! Not at all! I have done that several times! Totally worth it and its fun to wear maternity clothes before you show (heck I even wear some of my super cute ones when I’m not preggo).

Wait until you show because you may not. I bought a lot of maternity stuff and I didn’t start showing until 35 weeks. I wasted a lot of money on stuff I only wore for a couple of weeks. Motherhood maturity does have cute stuff, or if you’re super skinny Target has some cute clothes.

No it’s not too early I started buying mine around that time Motherhood has cute stuff and they have these little pillows you can put in your belly to see what works.. Congrats..
Well there not little they are round and it works.. :)

Personally I wouldn`t do it in advance… Here`s my scoop at it… Since I live in Mexico (which has no real maternity clothes options) I traveled to the US while I was 5 months pregnant just to buy the maternity clothes I like… I wasn`t really showing so I tried it on with the fake bellies they provide in specialty maternity stores… Well… guess what??? Im 32 weeks pregnant and none of my maternity clothes fit.. they are sooo big it`s ridiculous and my butt is always showing cause I can`t seem to keep my pants on… and the blouses are just huge… And yes, this is my first pregnancy so I didn`t know what to expect and I am 20 pounds heavier than pre-pregnancy weight… but they still won`t fit.

I would wait and try them on as needed.. but be sure to have a pair or two of clothes just in case one day you have a belly growing spurt and nothing fits..

It’s all in how much you want to spend.

I found I could wear some of my own clothes most of the way through. Whenever I started getting short on clothing or sad about not having anything new, I would go out and get one or two of what I need. That way, I ended up with just a few good maternity clothes – yet not a ton, so it was easy to box them up and store them for the next pregnancy.
Also – you go into clothes shopping withdrawal, even if you don’t shop much. You see a nice pair of new jeans and feel grumpy because it’ll be over a year (including postpartum) until you can buy something that’ll fit long-term.
So save up shopping until you need it, both mentally and physically. Clearance racks are always there.

i love old navy maternity clothes

some of these specialty maternity shops have ridiculous return policies – credit only or no returns after 30days – so just check that stuff out before you buy

nichole January 24, 2010 at 9:52 am

No I would buy them sooner then latter . I would not buy allot though just one or two outfits. Then later I would by more when you would know how much you will show.

orphan annie January 26, 2010 at 10:27 pm

No, it is actually a good idea, I think. That way you don’t have to spend all that at once. But, I wouldn’t buy too much at once, because you don’t know for sure how big you will be.

cherrie022 January 30, 2010 at 7:30 am

Heck no it’s not stupid. You might as well get what you like cheaper. I liked Motherhood Maternity and Old Navy. I bought stuff on sale when I found out I was preggers LOL

It really helps to buy maternity clothes ahead of time. I know of

It’s a great online store and the shopping experience is good with a wide variety. The clothes are both hip and comfortable.
